CONTENT

This course runs with a maximum of 6 participants.

We’ll look at all the skills required to lead mixed craft groups on journeys in moderate open water and rivers up to grade 1(2). You’ll paddle the craft that you feel happiest in and that you plan to take the assessment in.

The course will involve planning trips, understanding how the wind and flow affect different craft, rafting, sailing and portaging. We’ll cover different ways to support or challenge paddlers and to involve them in the decision making.

We’ll take a good look at the technical skills required to manoeuvre our craft in winds of up to force 4 and on grade 1 rivers with occasional short grade 2 rapids. We’ll also practise dealing with incidents and rescues.
